Snow creates hazardous conditions across northern Nevada
March 10, 2006, 12:24 PM PST

Driving is dicy across northern Nevada and Sierra this morning as another wave of wintry weather has left roads icy and snow covered.

Chains or snow tires are required across the region, including the U-S 395 corridor, from north Reno to south of Gardnerville. Snow is especially heavy in Carson City, where four to six inches of snow is reported.

In the Sierra, travel restrictions are in effect for all mountain passes, including Interstate 80 and U-S 50, the main routes linking northern Nevada and California.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says roads are slick, and numerous spin outs and fender benders have been reported. Forecasters say snow and cold temperatures will remain in the forecast through the weekend.
